Midway Geyser Basin: Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

The landscapes of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming are a kaleidoscope of wild colors, ranging from oranges to cold blue and greens that clash and blend in different pools and terraces. While fiery oranges make you think of hot temperatures, it is actually the areas colored blue that are the hottest – so hot, in fact that no bacteria or algae can even live in them and add any color other than what the sky reflects in them. This photo then, with its deep oranges, is a relatively cool pool of water, but don’t let relativity fool you!
