Midway Geyser Basin: Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellow Stone National Park

The fiery plain in this photo, a burning orange color given to it by the bacteria and algae that live in it, is cut off in the horizon of the landscape by a hill covered in a gloomy forest of charred trees. Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, although an exciting place to visit (especially for nature photography!), isn’t exactly fatality free. Dead trees, like the ones in this photograph, are common enough, but there are also pools of water with whole skeletons of animals that fell in unfortunately and were consumed by the boiling waters.
