Orange Mound Springs: Yellow Stone National Park, Wyoming

The large mound in the middle of this photo of Orange Mound Springs in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming is the natural color of travertine, from which the mounds are built up. The bright orange mounds in the left and right hand corners of the photograph are covered in orange bacteria and algae, giving them that vivid color and strange, sinister allure among nature photography buffs.
