Sand Mountains: Salta, Argentina

There are tiny villages hidden in enclaves sheltered by mountains that reveal themselves when you go around a bend, laying out before the photographer combed land and tame plots. The landscape looks as if all of the extra soil was swept back from the agricultural plots and left in piles in the back, posing as mountains. Soy has taken over as the main crop grown in Salta, but there’s probably still an element of subsistence farming in the middle of nowhere featured in this photo.
