Maroon Bell: Aspen, Colorado

The summer months at Maroon Bells in Colorado give way to wide stretches of wild flowers and greenery stretching across the landscape and blanketing the mountains, like in emerald city. The two famous peaks that are the Maroon bells are different geologically than most of the other Rocky Mountains – they are metamorphic sedimentary mudstone compared to the more prevalent granite and limestone peaks. In this photo, the ominous sky contrasts with the glowing, fresh green landscape.
